Jasmarin kennel kasvattaa broholminkoiria kotioloissa. Kävin kasvattajan peruskurssin maaliskuussa 2013, ja Suomen Kennelliitto myönsi minulle kennelnimen heinäkuussa 2013. Erirotuisia isokokoisia koiria minulla on kuitenkin ollut yli 40 vuotta. Oman kennelin perustaminen oli haaveeni jo lukioiässä, mutta sitten opiskelut, perheen perustaminen, työelämä ja ammattiyhdistysharrastus veivät mennessään. Vasta nyt, jäätyäni pois työelämästä ja jäädessäni lopullisesti eläkkeelle täyttäessäni 60 maaliskuussa 2014, pystyn toteuttamaan nuoruuden haaveeni.

Haaveen toteuttamiseen on vaikuttanut myös se, että nyt minulla on ELÄMÄNI KOIRA, broholmer Lotta (Great Master Wild Dream). Huomatessani sen ystävällisen, älykkään ja ihmisläheisen luonteen, en voinut välttyä ajatukselta: nämä geenit pitää saada jakoon! Varsinkin kun Lotta on sekä lonkiltaan että kyynärpäiltään priimaluokkaa ja muutenkin ollut koko ikänsä täysin terve. Eläinlääkärissä on pitänyt käydä vain rokotuksissa.

Asumme Keravalla tilavassa omakotitalossa, ja perheeseeni kuuluu Lotan ja minun lisäksi mieheni Juha. Poikani mopsit Tyyne ja Vieno ovat meillä usein hoidossa, välillä pitkiäkin aikoja. Vanhin poikani perheineen (vaimo ja 1-vuotias Otso-poika) vierailee myös meillä usein. Nuoremmankin pojan perheeseen on vähän aikaa sitten syntynyt vauva. Myös muita sukulaislapsia käy usein kylässä. Lotta onkin tosi luotettava kaveri sekä lasten että toisten koirien kanssa. Ei koskaan tarvitse edes vahtia, miten yhteiselämä sujuu, sillä luonne on perusystävällinen. Epämiellyttävässä tilanteessa luontainen reaktio on paikalta poistuminen. Lempeys, ihmisrakkaus, hellyydenkipeys ja halu keskustella silmillään ihmisen kanssa kuvaavat hyvin meidän Lottaa. Tällä hetkellä se on perheemme ainoa koira.

Lotta on käynyt hyväksytysti läpi jalostustarkastuksen ja MH-luonnekuvauksen. Sen lonkat on kuvattu (B/B), samoin kyynärpäät (0/0). Lotta on sekä Suomen että Viron muotovalio ja Viron voittaja 2013. Rodun erikoisnäyttelyssä Heinolassa 21.9.2013 se valittiin parhaaksi broholmernartuksi.

Kuitenkin mielestäni tärkeintä koirassa on terveys ja hyvä luonne, ja ne Lotan kohdalla toteutuvat. Plussaa mielestäni on broholminkoirien lyhyt ja vaivaton turkki. Sille ei periaatteessa tarvitse tehdä mitään. Kumisukaa voi joskus käyttää irtokarvojen poistamiseksi, varsinkin karvanlähtöaikaan. Kurakelillä lenkkeilynkin jälkeen riittää yleensä se, että pyyhkeellä vetää ravat pois mahan alta ja tassuista. Karva on sen tyyppistä, että se aika hyvin hylkii likaa. Koska broholmereilla on myös alusvillaa, ne eivät välttämättä tarvitse edes talvella vaatetusta. Ainakin Lotan kanssa on lenkkeilty ongelmitta jopa 30 asteen pakkasissa. Liikkeellä olo pitää lämpimänä.

Olen Suomen Broholmeryhdistys ry:n hallituksen jäsen. Yhdistys kuuluu Suomen Seurakoirayhdistykseen sekä Suomen Kennelliittoon ainoana rotua edustavana yhdistyksenä Suomessa. Samalla se on ainoa rotua edustava yhdistys, joka on velvoitettu noudattamaan Suomen Kennelliiton ja kansainvälisen FCI:n (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) sääntöjä. Muut mahdolliset rotuyhdistyksiksi itseään kutsuvat ovat epävirallisia, niillä ei ole virallista oikeutta edustaa rotua Suomessa tai ulkomailla eikä velvoitetta noudattaa Kennelliiton tai FCI:n sääntöjä, eivätkä ne voi järjestää näyttelyitä, jalostustarkastuksia tai luonnetestejä. Jasmarin Kennel is breeding broholmers at home, among us. I have completed a breeder course (arranged by the Finnish Kennel Club) in March 2013, and the Finnish Kennel Club has admitted me the kennel name Jasmarin in July 2013. Anyway, I have had big dogs of different breeds over 40 years. I was dreaming of an own kennel already when I was at the high school, but then I started to study for a teacher, had a family and a work, and in addition was working for the trade union. But now, when I have left the working life and am retiring in the beginning of April 2014 (at the age of 60), I can fulfill the dream of my youth.

Now I have also THE DOG OF MY LIFE, broholmer Lotta (Great Master Wild Dream). She is kind, intelligent and human-centric. So, I couldn't help beginning to think: I want these genes to spread forward! Especially when Lotta's hips and elbows are fine, and she has always been very healthy. She has needed the veterinarian only for vaccinations.

We live in a big house with a quite big garden. My family consists of me, Lotta and my husband Juha. Also the pugs of my son are here often, sometimes even a week or longer. My oldest son with his wife and one year old boy visit us often. My younger son and his wife will also have got a baby a few days ago. The children of other relatives visit us often, too. Lotta is a very reliable friend both with children and other dogs. I never have to watch, what is happening, because she is so friendly. If she doesn't like some situation, she goes away. She never couldn't think of being aggressive. Charity, love and need for tenderness describe our Lotta perfectly. She also uses her eyes ably in dicussing with people. At the moment Lotta is the only dog of our family.

Lotta has passed successfully the breeding inspection and the MH-mental description. X-rays have been taken of her elbows (0/0) and hips (B/B). Lotta is a champion of Finland and Estonia, and she is the winner of Estonia 2013. In the special dog show of broholmers last September (in Heinola, Finland) she was chosen as the best female of the breed.

However, I think the most important features of dogs are the health and the good character. Lotta has got both of these. Besides, I think the fur of broholmers is very easy. Most often you don't have to do anything to it. At the time of hair departure it's good to use a rubber curry comb. The mud can be taken away just by a towel. You don't have to wash the dog often. Because broholmers have got an undercoat, they don't need any clothes even in winter. I have been jogging/walking with Lotta, when there has been -30 degrees outside. When you keep moving, you stay warm.

I am a member of the goverment of the Broholmer Association registered in Finland. This association belongs to the Finnish Companion Dog Association, the Finnish Kennel Club and FCI, as the only broholmer association in Finland. Other possible broholmer associations are not official, they don't belong to the Finnish Kennel Club or FCI and they have no right to represent the breed in Finland or abroad. Neither do they have any rights to arrange dog shows, breeding inspections or mental tests.
